STONE
LETTER CARVING WORKSHOP
The
Stone Letter Carving Workshop will take place in the Granite
Museum and Stone Art School. It will be given by Homer Peake,
a skilled “old school” Barre
stone carver familiar with contemporary techniques. Homer is
an instructor at the Stone Arts School. The workshop is conceived
to provide a grounding in the basics of letter carving to stonemasons
who might wish to expand their repertory of skills and be able
to carve monuments, gravestones and signage. Students will
learn the fundamentals and some fine points: letter styles,
how to lay out inscriptions, preparations for carving, and
the carving itself, using pneumatic carving tools. Students
can bring their own tools if they have them, but Trow and Holden
will be making basic tool kits available at a discounted price.
