CELEBRATING
AN HISTORIC SCOTTISH QUARRY
John
Maine
At
the 'PLACE OF ORIGIN' three artists defined a landscape, and
marked 160 years of granite extraction and stoneworkers' skills
at Kemnay Quarry, near Aberdeen, Scotland.
This
talk will also describe two coastal interventions in England,
where art, engineering and stonework combine in the shaping of
marine defences.
As
a sculptor and Royal Academician, John Maine also advises on
the Fabric of Westminster Abbey and St George's Chapel Windsor
and is a member of the Commission for English Cathedrals. John
has spoken at two previous Symposiums, the very first one in
2000 and the fourth one in 2004.
