The three best ways to get to Barre seem to be:

DRIVING for those living near enough to do so.

FLYING to Burlington International Airport. Connections between there and Barre are not convenient although the towns are only about 50 miles apart. This is not a problem for those who plan to rent a car, but it is for those who may not be able to afford it. If you intend to rent a car and drive to Barre and are willing to share your car-and the cost of the gas-for the drive to Barre, please inform me as to the time of your arrival there. If you cannot afford to rent a car and need a ride let me know that-and the time of your arrival also and I will perform match-ups. Near the baggage claim and the rental car stations is an information desk that can act as a rendezvous point.

Those of you with private planes will be glad to know about Edward Knapp State Airport only a few miles from Barre in Berlin Vermont. Telephone: 802-223-2221.

TRAIN. Some information on the Amtrak Vermonter appears below. More definite information, prices, a more detailed schedule can be obtained from AMTRAK. If I lived on the East Coast I think that's how I would go. Hopefully someone will be on the train to register folks so that won't have to be done in the morning. If you plan to take the train let me know and I'll give you details on where and when to register.

The train arrives in Montpelier at 8:30 in the evening and though there is no public transport to Barre (which is only 6 miles away) a taxi only costs $15 (Payless Taxi in Barre, 802-476-4097). Not bad split between two, three or four people. Those folks planning to come on the train should let me know and I can put you in touch with each other.

There's another option to get to Barre—car rental. Budget Rental of Montpelier will arrange to have a car waiting at the train station, Contact Lisa at 802-793-7660. If you intend to rent a car and are willing to take a few other folks to Barre, let me know and I'll arrange that.
