ANNUAL BARRE GRANITE FESTIVAL, September 12th, 2009

Barre, Vermont was the venue for Stonework Symposium 2008 which was held in conjunction with Barre's 11th Annual Granite Festival. This took place on the grounds of the Barre Granite Museum and Stone Arts School which was an ideal location for the first-ever Lithic Olympics with competitions in various stone-related activities viewed by nearly a thousand spectators.

We were planning a return to Barre for a "mini-symposium" and restaging of the Lithic Olympics, but it turned out that we couldn't, as we did last year, use the Granite Museum facility for the presentations. . . and it was uncertain whether or not there will be stone available for a dry stone walling competition. . . and the Stonecutters Brew Pub closed down. . . and very few folks indicated an intention to come.

So, regrettably, we've cancelled the official Stone Foundation aspects of the event. The Granite Festival will go on as usual though and we encourage Stone Foundation members and other visitors to this site to attend. It's a great event. We suggest that Stone Foundation folks wear their Stone Foundation T-shirts so you can recognize each other.
