ROCKNOCKER CONCLAVES
informal groups of individuals variously involved with stone can be expected to form outside the meeting hall, inside the restaurants and pubs, engaging in the spirited interchange of experiences and ideas.

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
At some point, probably on Sunday morning, a meeting will be scheduled for Stone Foundation officers and members to gather to discuss the present state and future form and function of the society.

INUKSHUK KINDERGARTEN
On Saturday mid-afternoon the symposium will assemble at a large gathering area called Panorama Point (for reasons that will be obvious on arrival) where stone will be available to make small scale Inukshuks –the dry stacked stone totemic figures made by the Inuit and Eskimo peoples of Canada and Alaska. They served to help herd reindeer and, in a vast and lonely land, existed as landmarks, as companions.  To contemporary stonemasons and artists, Inukshuks are opportunities for creative expression. This event will be as entertaining to observe as it will be enjoyable to participate in. Prizes will be awarded. The evening will culminate with a bar-b-que, beer and blue-grass music.

NORTHWEST COAST DOUBLE FEATURE
Those who can afford the time and expense should consider attending not only STONEWORK SYMPOSIUM 2006, but STONEFEST 2006 as well, another gathering of stone enthusiasts that will take place the previous weekend, September 21-24, at the Marenakos Rock Center in Seattle, WA.

A 20% discount from each registration fee will be available to those who attend both events.

Hood River is only about three or four hours by road from Seattle which makes it convenient for those who live in Washington or Oregon to attend both the STONEWORK SYMPOSIUM and STONEFEST.  Those visiting from elsewhere will have the time between events to explore the area.

For information about STONEFEST, visit www.marenakos.com.
